Here at THP we are always on the look out for products that can make our lives easier when it comes to dealing with cleaning our grey horses and ponies. Its a scientifically proven fact (well, not really , but you know what we mean) that it takes 3 times as long to get a grey ready for a show as it does any other colour of horse. So, when we were told by the lady at our local tack shop about the wonder qualities of Veredus Blue Snow Shampoo, even though it’s a pricey £18 a bottle, we were keen to put it to the test.
Belle was our “willing ” volunteer – (not exactly, but it was a cold day and the water from the hose pipe was chilly to say the least!) and having come in from a muddy field she had plenty to work on.
The first thing we noticed was the fact that the bottle comes with rubber gloves! Once we poured some into our hand – we could see why – this stuff is seriously purple and thick! We applied it to a damp tail and got to work. Straight away it foamed up into a pale purple cloud and as we rubbed it into the hair got paler until it was ready to wash out. We repeated the wash again, and left the tail to dry naturally.
And the verdict? We wouldn’t say it was sparkling bleached white, but then again, Belle’s tail has a certain amount of dark grey and even ginger strands in it so possibly it’s never going to. However, it was a huge improvement and we weren’t embarrassed to take her out to a training session with a brown tail! We’d like to try this again on a warmer day when we can give her a full body wash and see what she looks like.
Would we recommend it? Yes
