Christmas Pudding Recipe for Horses

Stir-up Sunday has been and gone but its not too late to make a Christmas treat for our equine friends! How about a Christmas Pudding designed specially for horses and ponies. No real cooking skills required – what could be better?!

  • 500g  brown sugar
  • 1 mug of bran
  • 2 mugs of chaff
  • 1 grated apple
  • 1 big carrot grated
  • 1 small tin of black treacle

plus, you can add a mug of mix if you feed it.

Heat up sugar and treacle until it’s all melted, the simply stir in the rest of the ingredients – you may need to add little more chaff or bran so it is very thick. Spoon it into a container – ideally a flapjack tray and leave it to set. In our experience we recommend keeping these into small biscuit like sizes so they are easy to “serve” – one large traditional Xmas Pud lump is a nightmare to slice!

Remember to feed with great care to horses with a sugar intolerance such as laminitics.
