When we learnt that 20-year-old Erin Williams had just launched an equestrian fashion brand – whilst riding for Team GB Young Riders at Dressage and studying for a Business degree – we were mightily impressed by this wonder-woman!
We wondered whether we would be as impressed by the clothes she had launched with her new Black Heart Equestrian company as we are by her, so when we received a hoodie and a cable knit sweater from Erin herself, we felt it our duty to give them a test and report back.
Cable Knit sweater
The sweater is 100% cotton, medium weight, soft and of fine knit. It comes in 5 sizes – XS- XL – we opted for a ‘large’, which was perfect for a size 12. It’s intended to be a close fit, but we really liked the fact that the cable knit made the sweater easy to move round in – flexible across the shoulders and arms, its super-comfy and with plenty of length in the arms giving you the option to turn back the cuffs if you wish.
We also like the subtle heart logo on the breast and the cuff tag detail – not too heavily branded but definitely brand associated! Ours was round necked and in grey, but you can also get them in V-neck and other colours including navy and maroon. The sweater is priced at £55 and we think it will be a really useful bit of kit for both riding and casual wear at home or out and about.
We got several unprompted compliments from horsey- and non-horsey people as we wore this sweater round and about – so we think Erin’s got a hit with this one!
So what about the Boyfriend Hoodie? It’s gorgeously soft with a warm fleecy lining inside but is also lightweight to wear. It’s
heavily branded with the Black Heart logos and names – on the pocket, sleeve, breast and across the back – we thought this was pretty cool as the logos are fun and funky, although it’s not subtle! They are designed to be a slouchy fit and the ‘small’ our size 8 tester tried was in fact the same size as the ‘large’ cable knit sweater which fitted a size 12 body. With breeches, the hoodie looks great for riding in, but also looks fab with jeans or shorts. We especially liked the clever hidden opening for headphone wires in the front pocket. It comes in black, blue and grey in sizes S to XL and sells for £40.
